After Rain

After Rain is my collection of stories and art, and wisdom and insight found in the natural world and in the challenges and choices of everyday life. It is my wish that it open your heart, clear your mind, and enlighten your spirit as you travel on your life’s journey.

Embedded in these short narratives are four fundamental truths I have found, again and again, hiding in plain sight: Living an intentional life is essential to living a purposeful one. Purpose is essential to a meaningful life. At the heart of meaning is the giving and receiving of love. And through that love we become connected to a greater good, a life larger than our own.

These truths call to us with every choice we make and every interaction we have, offering us endless opportunities to be curious and to grow. With each narrative and image, I show how these truths have been revealed to me through my own practices of gratitude and generosity, compassion and forgiveness, abundance and awe, stillness and knowing, courage and resilience.

Each one is a profound practice, yet rooted in the rhythm of our everyday lives.

Neither you, nor I will ever reach perfection, but with courage and dedication, we can keep practicing. After Rain is the story of how my practice, over time, has taught me to live upward and to live with greater intention, purpose and goodness.

I offer you After Rain, a practical guide, a book of wisdom, and artful beauty. May you receive it with my gratitude and be inspired to gift to others in turn.

I invite you to take a look inside. . . .

This is Where I Start Again

Today my head is crammed with thoughts, shaping my perspective on everything and everyone, and scattering me in all directions. I sometimes wonder, who is in charge? It’s certainly not me! I’m not even here. I’m somewhere over there. I’d like to stop, rest, and remember the way back. . . .

Say Yes

I have a friend named Maximilian, a very witty and wise man.  The other day I asked him what advice he would give me about life and he said, “Eat chocolate and say YES!”. . . .

The Best Day of My Life

Every morning recently I have been setting the intention to make today the best day of my life.

This is because I know today is the one and only day I have the power to choose, so it behooves me to make it my best. My yesterdays are piled up in the past and tomorrow is only a dream. But today, I am here, breathing in one moment at a time. . . .

Susan’s book is to be savored, like a quiet time-out in the day.  I love that every “thought” is presented on two pages and her photos and art work put me in a peaceful mindset as I settle myself in for a new little nugget of insight. It’s a pick-me-up, or a way to get out of my own head when I’m feeling distracted. I love this book and it will be my gift to my favorite people this year.
